While the specifications of the new Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition don’t seem to be radically different from those of the standard Wrangler – or any different at all, for that matter – the important detail is in the vehicle’s appearance. One glance at the new Wrangler should be enough to figure out what’s so special about it, as well as why the edition got the “Freedom” name in particular.
Styled in a dark green paint job, complete with military stars and a badge on the hood, this is any military enthusiast’s dream vehicle. Because, other than the stylish patriotic appearance, this is otherwise the same 2015 Jeep Wrangler which so many critics have already described as a fantastic machine and have strongly recommended buying.
For those who haven’t been following the new Wrangler closely, it’s powered by a 3.6 liter V6 engine with a manual, 5-speed transmission. With its nearly 300 horsepower output, it should be able to handle any kind of terrain with ease, and Jeep have actually been going on in detail about how well the new Wrangler handles more difficult environments.
Performance-wise, the new edition of the Wrangler seems to be exactly the same as the original model, so buying the Freedom edition is pretty much entirely a matter of taste. Some will definitely jump at the opportunity to display their allegiance for their country so openly, while others may see it as a bit too much – but the important thing is that Jeep are offering their fans sufficient options, and are letting them choose what they want in the end.
Sure, there’s always the possibility of just buying a plain Wrangler and tuning it to one’s desire, but a special custom edition like the Freedom one is definitely to be appreciated. Some critics have been questioning Jeep’s specific decision about the military theme though – but according to the company, the market for people who would buy a Wrangler styled like that is sufficiently large to warrant their decision.
And there has certainly been a lot of buzz over the new Wrangler around Internet forums already, so it’s probably a smart decision on Jeep’s side. It’s not known if the company has anything else similar planned for the near future, although it wouldn’t be too surprising if they decide to release another edition (or two) of the Wrangler. There haven’t been any rumors about any other similar designs, and the Wrangler’s Freedom edition certainly came a bit unexpectedly, but it seems that for many, it was a nice surprise in the end. Similar releases would definitely be welcome, judging by the current reactions from fans, but only time will tell if Jeep have anything else planned.
