Controversy does not seem to find places to hide when it comes to celebrities, sometimes they bring the Controversy to themselves. That is what happened with the 19 Kids & Counting show. The cast of the show, a real family that has 19 children and did not seem to have any end in sight when it comes to stopping. In recent months, the family has been speaking up about homosexuality and relationships and that has added plenty of media attention that the family might not be used to.
The recent uproar came when the family asked Facebook fans to post kissing photos directly on the Facebook Page. Even when you are not trying to cause any uproar, you have to pay attention to what you are saying on the internet. The request started out pretty normal, but with the family’s stance on relationship, it seemed that more people were starting to post images of same sex couples kissing. Naturally, for the family, they started to delete the photos and that was brought to the attention of pro-gay activists.
Some from the LGBT community took to the page to cause a stir with comments that were considered harsh in nature and even hateful. The Duggar family has not stepped back from what they believe and it has been widely known for years that they were against homosexuality. It seemed like most of those that are pro-gay almost forgot what family they were dealing with, but that did not stop them from starting a petition to get the 19 Kids & Counting show cancelled. The petition has been going on since August and has more than 180,000 signatures.
The petition was not a secret to the Duggar family and that is when Jim Bob made a comment of his own. He said that even though we love everybody, that does not always mean that we agree with them. The show has been on TLC since 2008 and Jim Bob said that the petition will not win as the show is number one on the TLC network. The 19 Kids & Counting show has been getting more exposure since the uproar and even counted more than 50,000 additional Facebook fans because of it.
Recently the show saw its highest ratings when it featured the wedding between Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard. That show brought in more than 4.4 million viewers which was the biggest audience since TLC showed “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” in 2010. It looks like gay right activists have been trying anything they can to get the show taken off the air, but according to the latest sources, that will not be the case.
