Blake Crouch, the author of the “Wayward Pines” book trilogy and one of the executive producers of the TV series of the same title on Fox, revealed in a recent interview that the upcoming third season of the show will be a study of the final hours of the human race in light of the ascendancy of the Abbies.
It can be recalled that the Season 2 finale of “Wayward Pines” saw the humans getting overmatched by the Abbies.
Crouch said that the final episode of Season 2 was intentionally done that way because what they have in mind is the Season 3 of “Wayward Pines,” reports the Parent Herald.
The disclosure of the author is fairly consistent with recent reports that the upcoming third and likely last season of “Wayward Pines” will see the transition from the human world to an Abbie-dominated world.
While the Abbies were initially thought to be in Season 2 as the inferior species when compared to the humans, their Queen Margaret, played by Rochelle Okoye, proved that the Abbies are more intelligent and also stronger than humans.
No. 1 scripted series in summer
Despite the viewership slide during Season 2 of “Wayward Pines” compared to its debut season, Fox Television Group CEO Dana Walden hinted that there is a good chance that the show will be renewed for Season 3.
Apparently, “Wayward Pines” turned out to be the No. 1 scripted series of summer, which buoyed hopes that it is going to be renewed.
Walden said during the Television Critics Association summer press tour early last month that there could be a Season 3 of “Wayward Pines” because it is still the No. 1 scripted show of the summer, reports the Ecumenical News.
However, up until this time, Fox has yet to confirm whether the show will indeed be renewed for a third season or no longer.
But since Blake Crouch and producer M. Night Shyamalan appear to be very confident that there would be a third season of “Wayward Pines,” most of the rumors going around on the internet are mostly about how the story would play out when the series returns to Fox sometime next year.
Mankind’s final time on Earth
If and when Fox gives Season 3 of “Wayward Pines” the green light, it is likely to be the last for the TV series.
It shall also highlight humankind finally reaching their time on Earth and is about to be made extinct by the Abbies or the aberrations.
It was Blake Crouch who hinted of the possible storyline for “Wayward Pines” Season 3 when he said in a recent interview that the TV series is actually about mankind and the idea that everyone’s time on Earth is not infinite.
It can be recalled that Season 2 of “Wayward Pines” ended with the humans on the losing side in their battle against the Abbies. Forced into a corner, the humans, with the help of CJ Mitchum, played by Djimon Hounsou, decided to go back into cryostasis to wait for a more hopeful era sometime in the future.
It is highly possible that there will be a short supply already of humans in “Wayward Pines” Season 3 because the Abbies have already taken over the world.
Crouch explained that “Wayward Pines” Season 3 shall focus on exploring the human nature as confronted by the threat of extinction of the species.
In Season 2 of “Wayward Pines,” the clash between the humans and the Abbies was the focal point of the show.
The battle to extinction remains unsettled during the Season 2 finale, which is why previous reports also have it that the upcoming Season 3 of “Wayward Pines” shall focus and explore the possible co-existence between the humans and the Abbies.
