Version 1.40 Update to Lengthen Battery Life of HTC One M9

When it was launched in March and subsequently made it to the retail markets in April, the HTC One M9 came out to mostly positive and favorable reviews from users.

But the current flagship smartphone of the Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has two major weak points – its rather short battery life and its less than impressive camera.

HTC did try to fix its camera with a software update but given that it is more of a hardware issue, the patch hardly made any difference in as far as improving the smartphone’s camera is concerned.

The rather short battery life of the HTC One M9 however appears to be a software optimization issue since the smartphone is actually bigger than the HTC One M8 and has a bigger battery too. That is why it came out as a surprise to many users that its battery drains faster than its predecessor, notes Ubergizmo.

Although the life of its 2840 mAH battery capacity is not really terrible compared to other smartphones in the market today, neither it is impressive when compared to the HTC One M8.

Doing something about it

HTC would not take it sitting down the way it attempted to do in improving its camera but failed short somehow. The Taiwanese smartphone maker is said to be working on an update for the phone, called the Version 1.40, that will improve the battery life of HTC One M9.

The update will be working on the baseband to improve the battery life of HTC’s current flagship smartphone.

Accordingly, the update has already rolled out in the home country of HTC One M9 in Taiwan but it is likely that it will be coming out soon in other countries for the rest of the HTC One M9 owners to take advantage of too.

A more powerful smartphone

Two weeks ago, reports also came out that the Taiwanese smartphone maker is actually planning to launch the HTC Butterfly 3 (HTV31) in Japan, which is said to be the Japanese version of the HTC One M9.

HTC One M9

The problem with HTV31 is that it is reportedly several notches better than the HTC One M9, and many experts in the global tech community believe that the Taiwanese tech company is actually shooting itself in the foot by doing so, marketing-wise.
