Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg has just confirmed in a recent interview that he will reprise his role as inventor and mechanic Cade Yeager in the fifth installment of the robot movie franchise “Transformers.”
Wahlberg’s confirmation also debunked previous speculations that “Transformers 5” will be a full robot movie and that there will be no humans at all. But his statement also confirmed the other set of rumors stating that the fifth “Transformers” movie shall have two storylines, one shall be set on earth and the other in Cybertron.
It could be recalled that towards the end of “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” the fourth movie of the franchise, Optimus Prime decided to head to outer space in order to search for the Creators of their race.
It was during the premiere of his latest movie “Daddy’s Home” that Mark Wahlberg confirmed to the press that he will be back for “Transformers 5” whose production will start next year in time for its showing to global theaters in 2017.
With the confirmation of Wahlberg, rumors also started flying that Director Michael Bay shall also make his comeback to the “Transformers” franchise since Wahlberg and Bay are very good friends, notes the Christian Today.
A few months ago, Wahlberg was also quoted as saying that he wants Bay to direct the fifth film of the franchise and he is close to convincing him to reconsider his decision of leaving the successful movie series after the release of the fourth “Transformers” film in the middle of 2014.
Bay might reconsider
The latest word about Michael Bay is that he already have some discussions about the upcoming film with producer Steven Spielberg.
There are reports that the confirmation of Wahlberg could actually mean that the deal has been forged between the producers and Michael Bay so that the director shall come back to helm the next film once again, points out the Lawyer Herald.
In addition to the return of Mark Wahlberg and the possible comeback of Director Michael Bay for “Transformers 5,” reports are also coming out that Megan Fox might also decide to return.
Fox only appeared in the first two movies of the franchise and she left the franchise after a supposed rift with Director Bay. So if Fox would return, it could be that the issue between her and Michael Bay has been forgiven and forgotten already.
There were also reports earlier this year stating that Megan Fox would only agree to return to the “Transformers” franchise if her former screen partner Shia LaBeouf will also return. But it is very unlikely that the producers will take back the troubled actor.
Robots to take center stage
The reports that it would be robots taking the center stage in the next “Transformers” movie actually came from a source within the production.
It was actually Akiva Goldsman, former head of the “Transformers” franchise writers’ room, who decided on having the mechanoids take center stage in the next installment since that is what “Transformers” is all about in the first place.
But Goldsman has left the position since after he was tapped by Hasbro to be in charge of the “G.I. Joe” franchise and the “Micronauts” movie.
In a past interview prior to leaving, Goldsman said that the next installment of “Transformers” will have a lot of visual help, toys, robots, sketches, as well as writers and artists. He added that after the super saturation, the writers will figure out not just one but numerous films that will extend the film’s universe.
However, since Goldman has already been replaced by writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway of “Iron Man,” it remains to be seen if the plan set forth by their predecessor will stick.
As far as media outlets are concerned, it would really be exciting to see “Transformers 5” centering on the battle of Optimus Prime and his Autobots against Megatron and his Decepticons because it has been the gist of the franchise when it was still an animated cartoon.
Reports also have it that humans will just be in the sidelines in the upcoming movie, which seems to be consistent with previous reports that “Transformers 5” will be set in the home planet of the Creator, which is probably Cybertron or whatever remains of it.
