What direction is “Transformers” going to take in the future? There are lots of different possibilities, and fans right now don’t want to exclude any of them. The producers themselves seemingly aren’t quite sure how they want to proceed, although we did get news that they are apparently looking at creating an “expanded universe” like the ones surrounding Marvel or DC Comics. If that happens, the next “Transformers” might not be a traditional sequel but something rather unique.
There is also speculation that the franchise will be rebooted by its fifth installment, changing the setting a little bit. If that’s true, then the producers are apparently looking to restore the franchise to its original setting when it was just robots, without any humans. There have been rumors that the producers are looking to remove all traces of humanity for the next version, so that might definitely turn out to be true.
But given how much they’ve already established in the previous four films, they would definitely have to go for a reboot if they wanted to do that. It would make little sense to completely get rid of humans for “Transformers 5” without explaining what happened, and there aren’t that many logical explanations that they could provide in the plot – if any.
And then, that particular rumor spawned an entire class of discussions itself. Fans are now wondering if the next film is even going to be a live-action movie if the rumors about removing humans are true. Technically, if there are no human roles in the film, and therefore no human actors are needed, the producers could do the entire film as CGI.
That would have both its advantages and disadvantages, but it could ultimately give them a lot more creative freedom in developing both this film, as well as any potential sequels coming after it. They would probably still need voice actors though, so we might hear some familiar voices in the end, but nothing would be guaranteed if they decide to just start over from scratch like that.
In the end, it’s also possible that this might not ever happen in the first place. It could be a rumor, or it could be just an idea that the producers have but it never goes anywhere. We won’t know for sure until “Transformers 5” is announced officially, and that could take a while, given the current rumors. Whatever the producers decide to do about the next installment in the franchise though, it has a lot of potential to breathe some fresh life into this series, and hopefully they will put that potential to good use. This could even be the beginning of an entire new era for “Transformers”!
