From a September 24 premiere date on NBC, Season 3 of the American crime drama TV series “The Blacklist” will officially hit the TV screens on October 1.
The delay is meant to give way to the premiere episode of “Heroes Reborn,” which is a remake of a previous TV series titled “Heroe,” notes Christian Today.
Apart from the fact that Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Keen, played by Megan Boone, has turned to become a fugitive from previously being the FBI profiler, she and Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington, played by James Spader, are now on the run from the same side of the law that they were working on during the first two seasons of the show.
The FBI will apparently send out Ressler, played by Diego Klattenhoff, to do the manhunt on Red and Liz. Given his gung-ho approach, Ressler will reportedly go to great lengths just to catch the two fugitives, even if it means putting others in danger, notes Enstarz.
Interesting third season
“The Blacklist” Season 2 finale showed a rather emotional episode, which would surely prepare something very interesting for the upcoming season.
In a recent interview, Boone said that viewers of “The Blacklist” should expect something very different when the show returns for its third season in October. She said that the TV series will still maintain the same characters but will bring very different dynamics, particularly with regards to law enforcement.
Latest leaks about “The Blacklist” indicate that the fourth episode will bring the fugitives face-to-face with a criminal whose nickname comes from the Islamic mythology – the Djinn.
According to series creator Jon Bokenkamp, they have blown up the format of “The Blacklist.” It will no longer be like the first two seasons where Red sits on a park bench and tells Liz the next Blacklister she is going to catch with his help of course.
Bleak outlook
While the first two seasons of “The Blacklist” is already considered dark, Season 3 is expected to turn even darker following the developments in the Season 2 finale.
“The Blacklist” will feature considerably bleaker outlook as Liz no longer works within the law.
Keen disappeared with Red played by James Spader, at the end of the second season.
During an interview in May, Megan Boone actually said that when “The Blacklist” comes back in September, it is going to have the same characters but altogether a different show and a different dynamic. And that is because Liz Keen became a fugitive and her rights and privileges as an FBI profiler revoked.
Based on the synopsis of the first episode of Season 3, titled “The Troll Farmer,” a desk-bound CIA analyst volunteers to go undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent diabolical global disaster.
With no clear protagonist to start Season 3, the heroic actions of the new character are quite timely because someone really needs to pick up the good guy slack in “The Blacklist.”
As she is now on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, Liz is actually embracing the unknown. But Megan Boone is not at all worried about the shift in her character’s dynamics and focus.
She believes that whatever the shake-up to the series will be, the new darker action is where the show needs to go. While she understands that the show needs to have some sort of formula for its 22 episodes for every season, Season 3 certainly breaks open a lot of the structure of the show for a good purpose.
For his part, veteran actor James Spader said that Season 3 of “The Blacklist” sort of throws all the pieces up in the air, while accompanying it with a laugh. He also added that Season 3 could conceivably start the same day as the end of Season 2.
