Star Wars Battlefront Beta Will Be Exclusively Online, no Single Player!

“Star Wars Battlefront” is almost here, after much controversy surrounding the development of the title. While fans are still wondering what they’re going to get and if the game will live up to their expectations, a beta is coming up that should clear up at least some of the confusion and make it obvious if the online play is worth the price of the title. However, those who were hoping to also check out the single player portion of the game will be unlucky as they will not have that option during the beta.

This was officially confirmed by a community manager for EA, who said that players will need an active connection at all times in order to access the contents of the beta, including Missions. There will be various pieces of content released in the beta and it should give players a good enough insight into the game itself in order to let them make their decision, but those who want to check out how it will play in solo mode will have to wait until the actual release.

The beta will also be used to test for bugs and polish up the game before it’s officially released, and this is becoming quite common not just for EA, but other studios as well. Which is certainly not a bad thing, as it does help a lot to ensure that games are released without too many bugs and balance issues. For a game that’s primarily focused on its online multiplayer and requires perfect balancing in order to work properly, this is a very important phase of its development and it’s good to see EA are giving players an opportunity to jump on board and test the game themselves.

Some have been critical of this development style, claiming that it exploits players as free testers – but in the end, if someone wants to check out the game ahead of time, and that player is aware of the implications of a beta, then they should by all means give the game a try and see if it works out for them. Those who can live with a few bugs should not find it too troubling to bear through them as EA are collecting their feedback and improving the game, and the final result should be well worth all of this as well.

The beta will be open for everyone who wants to try it across all platforms, PC included – and players will get a chance to engage in 40-player fights, along with various other special features that EA want to test for this iteration in order to ensure that the title is as polished as possible for its final release. It would be interesting to see how players respond to the game as a whole, as there has been a lot of controversy surrounding its development and it would be nice for fans to get some reassurance that everything is going to work out fine in the end.

The main problem that most fans seem to have is that EA have been changing too much in the formula, probably to appease larger crowds more easily. While there’s nothing wrong with making the game more accessible, when it comes at the expense of important features, that could be a bit of a problem. And in the case of “Star Wars Battlefront”, some of the game’s features did indeed get cut out from production, leaving fans to wonder what they are going to get in the end.

  1. EA has made progress in repairing their broken image? Must have been happening in a parallel universe, lol. They are still the greedy a-holes they were and it would need them many many years to loose that reputation.

Plus they don’t really change a thing. Promises are worth nothing. 100% they screwed up this game.

To get better EA would need to have a complete change of mind, which only could come with a complete change of management. And that isn’t going to happen.
