It looks like Sony have run into some problems with the development of their newest Z4 Tablet, as the company is going to have to delay the device’s release until the end of June in the earliest, reports indicate. This news came as a bit of a surprise to fans of the company who had been waiting for the tablet, as previously we heard that the development work has been going quite well.
Of course, certain kinds of delays can be very difficult to predict in the tech industry, and it’s understandable that Sony might run into an unexpected issue along the way. Still, it’s good to hear that the delay isn’t that major and we’re still going to get the tablet in a reasonable time period, instead of seeing it postponed indefinitely.
According to reports, the tablet is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, and that could actually be the reason behind the delay. There have been issues with overheating of the device and Sony are trying to resolve them, but it’s possible that they might have to downgrade the tablet’s performance slightly in order to make it properly usable without any overheating.
That would be a shame, as it’s shaping up to be a very powerful device right now, with a lot of potential to satisfy Android users who need a more adequate tablet in their hands. However, it’s of course much better to have a tablet that doesn’t end up overheating after an hour of serious use, so in the end Sony have to focus on the right priorities in the design of the device.
It was supposed to come in early June, but now Sony’s online stores in the UK are listing June 29 as the release date for the tablet, or at least that’s when shipments are supposed to begin. Meanwhile, users of the Z4 phone have already been complaining about the device’s issues with overheating, particularly those in Japan who have been very vocal about the smartphone’s temperature issues.
NTT, a Japanese mobile carrier, have been getting various complaints from their users about the temperature of the device, and they have even put a warning sticker on it as a precaution, advising potential buyers to be careful with the phone and giving them tips on how to avoid causing it to overheat. This is a pretty bad situation in terms of marketing, as it’s not going to leave a positive impression on fans, but there’s not much the company can do now that the phone is already out on the market.
