Although she has been saying that she was at peace with her decision to divorce her husband after 25 years of marriage late last year, Meri Barber obviously regrets ending her status as Kody Brown’s legal wife in the American reality TV series “Sister Wives” on TLC.
A 142-second teaser trailer of the Season 6 of “Sister Wives” was recently released by TLC and it featured Meri expressing her regrets to Robyn Sullivan, the new lawfully wedded wife of Kody, during their heart-to-heart talk.
During the Season 5 finale of “Sister Wives,” Kody married his fourth wife, Robyn, after divorcing Meri, with the intention of legally adopting Robyn’s three children from her first marriage.
She was previously Kody’s third spiritual wife and without the benefit of legal marriage, Robyn cannot contend to get her three children from her former husband who promised to fight for them in courts.
The video clip showed Meri confiding her decision to divorce Kody with Robyn about the divorce being final. Meri also said that every time she is having an emotional moment about what she has lost, she just thinks that her decision is not about herself but about the kids. She added that it is from that thought that she becomes happy, although it was clear from the tinge of her voice that there was regret in her decision.
While she and Robyn eventually had a hearty laugh after their conversation, Meri was also quoted as saying that she just have to laugh every time she thinks about it because she feels so stupid about her decision, details Jobs and Hire.
Season 6 of “Sister Wives” will premiere on TLC on September 6.
Outdated laws on consensual adult relationships
“Sister Wives” has been under fire from some legalists because polygamy is illegal in the United States. But Kody Brown and his household have a way out of the legal situation. Although he has four wives, he is only legally married to one of them at a time, while the three others are based on spiritual unions.
The Brown family were previously investigated and no crimes or harm was found in their plural family. Having dodged a bullet, it is time that they take the offensive the second time around.
On August 26, the family lawyer, Atty. Jonathan Turley, filed documents at the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals stating that the laws restricting consensual adult relationships are already outdated even if certain unions remain unpopular, details Fox News.
The Browns believe that with the US Supreme Court recently legalizing same-sex marriage, a polygamous family or marriages can actually be as healthy as monogamous ones.
The court documents were filed in defense of the Brown’s legal victory in 2013 when a federal judge struck down key parts of Utah’s law banning polygamy. Advocacy groups for polygamy lauded the court ruling then because it removed the threat of arrest for the state’s plural families.
Atty. Turley said that the Brown family is prepared to take the legal fight to the US Supreme Court if necessary.
Major drama on the way
Apart from contending with the impact of the divorce on Meri, Kody shall also have to deal with her upcoming child by Robyn who will be five months pregnant by the time the show starts airing on the small screen.
Because of these, it is expected that there will a shift in the family dynamics making it more interesting, particularly on how Kody will deal with all of the challenges and changes too.
There have been reports since last month that Meri felt bitter, like any woman would, for divorcing her husband of 25 years, in favor of another woman whom she shares the household with. Meri immediately debunked those notions saying that she was at peace with her decision.
Meri said that she already has eternity with the family so she knows that it’s not the end for her, for Kody, or for their family.
It seems however that her emotions have gotten the better part of her that is why she has been feeling remorse and expressing regret for the decision she just made.
Meri also denied rumors that she and Robyn Sullivan, the youngest, and the new wife of Kody Brown, were having a feud because if the feud is true, she would not be giving up Kody for her.
Kody and Robyn have a better and stronger relationship than the other wives(with Kody) do. Some people just seem to “click” if the chemistry is right and some do not. Kody could not control his heart, body and soul as they have guided him to his true love, his new wife. Heavenly Father knew Kody was not happy and brought him Robyn, the greatest blessing. Now both Robyn and Kody are happy.
