Ryu, Roy, and Lucas Were Already in Development for ‘Super Smash Bros 4’ Before Nintendo Begun Fan-Voting on the Video Game

Three crossover characters were added to the roster of the fighting game “Super Smash Bros 4” on the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS in June.

“Super Smash Bros 4” is also known as “Super Smash Bros” and it was released in November last year.

The three crossover characters are Ryu from “Street Fighter,” Roy from “Fire Emblem” and “Lucas from “Mother 3” and Nintendo have made the three of them available via DLC.

DLC is a new strategy for the “Super Smash Bros 4” of Nintendo and Lucas, Ryu, and Roy have become the second, third, and fourth downloadable characters respectively, in the video game next only to Mewtwo from “Pokemon.”

Roy and Lucas have become available for $3.99 on Wii U or Nintendo 3DS, or $4.99 for both game versions. Ryu, on the other hand, comes with the Suzaku Castle stage from “Street Fighter” and is available for $5.99 on either gaming console or for $6.99 for both.

The “Super Smash Bros will also get new Mii Fighter costumes soon from other video games like “Virtua Fighter,” “Tekken,” and “Animal Crossing.” The Dreamland stage from the original “Super Smash Bros” for Nintendo 64 will likewise return to the Wii U and 3DS along with a few tweaks.

Not because of fan votes

While some fans of “Super Smash Bros 4” may have thought that it was because of their votes that Nintendo decided to bring in new fighting characters from other video games, the truth is it is not.

According to Game Director Masahiro Sakurai in his column in Famitsu magazine, Ryu, Roy, and Lucas were already in development long before Nintendo decided on the fan vote idea.

It was only in April when Nintendo hatched a program allowing fans to vote on which fighters they would like to see added on “Super Smash Bros 4” as DLC characters, details Siliconera.

Sakurai also disclosed that gamers should expect to see more characters added to “Super Smash Bros 4” as DLC in the next couple of months until the point that the development team can no longer work together as one.

Perfect integration

Meanwhile, astute gamer Master0fHyrule lauded Nintendo’s perfect integration of Ryu to “Super Smash Bros.” While it was a big risk on the part of Nintendo considering that Ryu carries with him 25 years worth of “Street Fighter” titles, great care was taken by the developer to ensure the seamless integration of Ryu into the “Super Smash Bros 4” fighting roster.

He was also given two Final Smashes and three different attack strengths in the game, from light, medium, and strong, amid the fact that “Super Smash Bros 4” is basically a two-button game, notes Polygon.

Master0fHyrule is the same gamer who developed a video on Ryu delivering his patented and dreaded focus punch to every character in the fight roster of the game.

The result was awesome, every character including the two upcoming ones – Roy of “Fire Emblem” and Lucas of “Mother 3” – went down hard after receiving Ryu’s focus punch.
