A lot has been said about Sony’s upcoming Xperia Z4, and rumors have been swinging back and forward over the last few weeks – however, there seems to be some clarity on the horizon, as some bits of information have been getting more and more solid, and it seems that some of the initial rumors hit the nail on the head about the device’s specifications. The device is expected to come in the first quarter of 2015, and it’s going to be a considerable step forward for the line.
According to some of the more prominent rumors, the phone will have a 5.5 inch display with a Quad HD resolution (1440×2560), and its picture quality will be exceptionally good. The Xperia line is already known for its pretty good screens, but apparently the Z4 is going to bring that trend even farther ahead, with a crisper, clearer picture and a more responsive touchscreen component. At the same time, battery life has been improved, as the new screen doesn’t put such a serious strain on the device.
It’s also rumored to be one of the debut devices for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810, which so far has been rumored for various upcoming prominent phones. It seems like the newest wave of Android power devices is going to rely heavily on Qualcomm’s latest offerings, which could also potentially indicate some added standardization in Android software development.
The camera is also something to consider, with a 21 megapixel sensor and improved shooting software, with the addition of “plane phase detection”, which according to reports is the first time the technology will be featured in a camera phone. It will make focusing on moving objects much more intuitive, as the software will be able to selectively apply focusing on a number of different points for added precision in the final result. It should be noted that while this camera software has been officially confirmed by Sony, its presence in the Xperia Z4 is a rumor so far and it’s not known if the new phone will actually include the improved camera technology.
In the end, it’s also possible that the phone will have different specifications, as other rumors are pointing at another type of screen – 5.2 and 5.4 inches are getting mentioned quite often – as well as a different camera, although the Snapdragon 810 seems to be quite solid as far as rumors go. RAM size tends to vary from one rumor to another as well, although it’s probably safe to expect at least 2 GB from a device that’s more powerful than the average Android smartphone on the market in 2015, especially one in the Xperia line.
