‘Resident Evil 7’ Developer Reinvents the Survival Horror Game and Provides VR Support on the PS4 to Boot!

Japanese game developer Capcom was at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 last week and it launched and showcased a trailer and demo of the dramatic horror action-adventure third-person shooter video game “Resident Evil 7” as promised.

Capcom announced that the game shall hit the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on January 24 next year. Interestingly, it shall also have virtual reality (VR) support when it comes out of the PlayStation 4, reports Engadget.

Series producer Masachika Kawata explained during the E3 2016 that they have worked on reinventing “Resident Evil 7” and allow it to go back to its horror roots, which according to some critics, have sorely been missing in the last installment of the game.

Capcom has helped pioneer the survival horror concept in video games with the “Resident Evil” franchise but for some reasons, it was also the one who deviated from the genre a few years ago.

The demo and trailer of “Resident Evil 7” shown during the E3 2016 featured a more terse, psychological kind of horror game which many other game developers, including Konami, are looking to tap into.

Kawata said that the game is still a work in progress but judging from what fans and gamers have seen at the E3 2016, it looks like the Capcom development team is on course to meeting its objectives for “Resident Evil 7.”

A different kind of experience

While the game will come out with VR support on the PlayStation 4, it is actually an optional feature so those who will opt not to use the technology and decide to play the game normally on the Sony gaming console can do so.

Kawata said that “Resident Evil 7” will offer a different kind of experience whether gamers shall play it with or without the PlayStation VR support.

It shall offer a more detailed and visceral experience of the game environment although Kawata admitted that comfort optimizations might be an extra challenge.

The series creator added that there are a lot of variables in place when “Resident Evil 7” is played in VR including how the player feels at the time he plays the game. He said that they are looking into it and the E3 2016 was a perfect opportunity for them to obtain gamer feedbacks based on those who have seen the trailer and played the game’s demo.

Solving the mysteries

The gameplay demo of “Resident Evil 7” became fodder for a lot of avid and enthusiastic gamers, who all put their thinking caps on to solve its mysteries, notes Stevivor.

There were three different endings in the demo and gamers were trying to figure it out. A representative of the Japanese developer Capcom recently said that all the mysteries that gamers have seen in the demo of “Resident Evil 7” would be answered by their team at Research & Development.

The company rep said that it was intentional on the part of Capcom to put those mysteries because they want to keep people and gamers guessing.

It would be up to gamers to figure it out soon or simply wait for Capcom to provide them the answers when “Resident Evil 7” finally rolls out in the gaming consoles in January next year.

Capcom has also launched the “Resident Evil” spin-off game recently where it also said that it will be working on the next saga to the “Resident Evil” franchise.

Resident Evil 7

There were previous  rumors that made the rounds online saying that the game may actually come out on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One later this year. However, with Capcom already working on the spin-off “Umbrella Corps” at this time, it looks remote, especially now that the developer also announced the official release date of “Resident Evil 7” in January next year.

When “Resident Evil 6” was released to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in October 2012, Capcom did not see the deluge of problems coming.

It was made further worse when the PC version of “Resident Evil 6” came out some six months later or in March 2013.
