Even though there’s no denying that there’s a huge amount of hype surrounding the release of “Avatar 2”, it looks like fans will have to be disappointed as they will need to wait at least one additional year to see the film. Reports indicate that James Cameron has been having difficulty writing the film’s script, and as a result, the production has had to be delayed. The one year period is just a guideline for now from what we can tell, and it’s perfectly possible that the film takes even longer.
Cameron has been quite busy lately in general, as he’s not only working on “Avatar 2” but other productions as well, and it’s probably taking its toll on his ability to concentrate on one project at a time. He explained that there is also a lot of complexity involved in getting the story to work properly, especially in the saga format that he’s interested in.
He wants to develop a plot that spans across three films in an epic trilogy, as the kind of story that he wants to tell with “Avatar” as a whole is something that simply doesn’t fit in the traditional single-film format. At the same time, this is obviously not an easy task, and Cameron has had to face various challenges in order to get it done.
Cameron himself didn’t want to explain what exactly resulted in the need for a delay, but we did get a report that the reason is tied in his original plans for the franchise. Apparently, “Avatar” was initially planned to span across four sequels, instead of the trilogy that Cameron is developing right now, and this in turn has caused problems in his current work.
The director now has to decide which parts of the film he can safely remove, and which ones should be kept in order to get the best result possible in terms of telling the story he wants. At the moment though, he wants to keep things limited to three sequels, and this means cutting out a significant portion of the plot that has been already planned.
Still, Cameron also wanted to reassure his fans that he’s hard at work on the next installment in the franchise and they shouldn’t be worried about the future of the series. He stated that as every day goes by, he’s feeling more and more confident in his ability to tell the story that he specifically wants to tell with these films, so if anything, his fans should expect “Avatar 2” and its subsequent sequels to be amazing.
