Starting September 1, Sony Computer Entertainment will be raising the monthly and quarterly subscription fees for PlayStation Plus in Europe, particularly in the UK, where the premium gaming service has a huge subscriber base.
Those who will take the annual subscription to the premium service shall be spared from any increase in subscription fees, notes Push Square.
Accordingly the quarterly subscription will be raised from the current £11.99 ($18.57) to £14.99 ($23.22). However, Sony Computer Entertainment representatives revealed that the price changes might be different in some markets.
Amid the impending increase in the monthly and quarterly subscription fees, Sony said in a statement that it is dedicated to bringing PlayStation Plus members the best possible service with the most compelling content. It explained that the price increase that the company will effect on its monthly and quarterly PlayStation Plus subscription fees is because of market conditions, without really going into the specifics.
Investing on the premium service
The company added that it will continue to invest in PlayStation Plus to ensure an unparalleled gaming experience to its subscribers, highlighted by the best quality games and features.
Reports also have it that the increase in the subscription fees is only for the European markets as the company apparently has no plan of effecting the same in North America or Asia in the immediate future.
The increase in the PlayStation Plus subscription fees comes with reports that the PlayStation Network is getting flaky for most members these days with complaints of regular outages, cloud storage issues, and slow download speeds.
The PlayStation Lifestyle also confirmed the increase on the monthly and quarterly subscription rates to the PlayStation Plus in its report that is primarily intended to the UK market.
The site has likewise announced the August 2015 free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers are now ready for downloading.
Lacks Triple-A game titles
Subscribers of PlayStation Plus have been airing their gripes against the lack of Triple-A game titles in the Instant Game Collection that Sony has been releasing month in and month out.
Since the launch of the PlayStation 4 in November 2013, Sony has only launched a Triple-A game title three times, the last of which was on December 2014 when it included “Injustice: Gods Among Us” as part of its Instant Game Collection.
The other two occasions was when Sony launched “Infamous: First Light” and “Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.” The rest of the months, Sony was merely launching mostly Indie game titles and PlayStation Plus subscribers keep on feeling that they are being short-changed every time free games come out.
In July, the game titles that were released as free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers with PS4 include “Mousecraft,” “Entwined” “Rocket League,” “Styx: Master of Shadows,” and “Driveclub PS Plus Edition.”
The other games for the PS3 and the PS Vita are “Rain” and “Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved.
PlayStation fans are now demanding more from Sony and the company should meet these demands if it wants to maintain their subscription to the PlayStation Plus.
The release of Triple-A game titles also becomes imperative for Sony since the company actually forces PS4 owners to play online.
As much as it is putting a requirement on its gamers for the subscription it is offering, Sony has a bigger responsibility to offer Triple-A game titles.
Fans have been clamoring for classic Triple-A game titles including “Killzone: Shadowfall,” “Infamous: Second Son” or “Knack” for quite some time. All these Triple A games are exclusive on the PS4 so it is about time that Sony gives it a good thought. But it seems like Sony would not give in to subscribers’ demands just yet and the most that it can offer is “Knack.”
Fighting game titles like “Mortal Kombat X,” “Ultra Street Fighter IV,” and “Guilty Gear Xrd” as well as films like “Foxcatcher,” “Fight Club” and more are up for a 60% discount. PlayStation Plus subscribers receive an additional discount of 15% so they can get the game and movie titles for as much as 75% off.
