Motorola Moto 360 vs. Samsung Gear S vs Apple iWatch: How Does the Big Trio Fare Against Each Other?

2014 witnessed a major change in the smartphone industry, recording the introduction of multiple smart watches in the wake of technological advancements. However, the question is, are the customers ready for this technological invasion, so soon? We find out.

The three primary players in the class right now are Motorola Moto 360, Samsung Galaxy Gear S and the Apple iWatch. Apple and Samsung have an edge over Moto in the smartphone industry. Do they manage to create an edge in the smart watch segment as well?

Even though the first generation Samsung Galaxy Gear attained much popularity, there were numerous reports against the device’s poor usability. Apple has an edge here, as their products are aimed simply at the user. Hence, there have been no complaints about Apple’s integrity or product quality.

Motorola is the clear underdog in this class, although, the Moto 360 is equally potential in this range. While the Moto 360 and Samsung Galaxy Gear S are currently available in the market, Apple is yet to reveal the iWatch, which is rumored to be hovering around an early 2015 release date.

Design:

The best looker in the class is beyond doubt, the Motorola Moto 360. The device has been designed in the traditional manner and is round-shaped, unlike the Galaxy Gear S. Apple is yet to officially showcase the iWatch. Hence, we cannot comment on the device’s design at the moment.

The Moto 360, on the other hand, combines the finesse of a classic Swiss watch design and couples it with the perfect blend of engineering and modern technology. It lends a sophisticated yet geeky feel, which is good in a way. The Samsung Galaxy Gear S is more of a modern day device and is made out of plastic, which proves to be a major setback for the device.

Hardware:

While the Motorola Moto 360 and the Samsung Galaxy Gear S are powered by a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor and 512 MB of RAM, the Apple iWatch’s hardware capabilities are yet to be announced. All that we know about the device so far is that, it draws power from Apple’s S1 chipset.

Compatibility:

The iWatch is expected to be compatible with all of Apple’s present generation devices that the company provides backup to. This list includes the iPhone 4S, 5, 5S and the recently revealed 6 and 6 Plus.

Samsung is not as advanced, although, the Galaxy Gear S is compatible with most of their present generation devices that are in the market.
