American tech company Motorola is probably regretting its decision for its flagship device, Motorola Droid Turbo, to skip the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system update and go straight with the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware update instead. According to Tech Times, users of the smartphone have been experiencing various problems with their handsets when they downloaded the Android 5.1 Lollipop update.
The Droid Turbo came out the market in October last year as part of the brand’s Verizon Droid lineup. The handset maker gave it a slogan that reads ‘Rising to the Moment’. It first came out running on Android 4.4 Kitkat mobile operating system. The smartphone looks a lot similar to its predecessor, the Droid Maxx, the only difference is that the Droid Turbo is equipped with a durable nylon strengthened with Kevlar for a slicker appearance.
Early this month, Motorola announced that the high-end smartphone will be rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for download to those who owns the smartphone, while the same OS shall be running on the handset out of the box for those who will purchase the smartphone. This led to a lot of users looking forward to getting their hands on the much-awaited OS update.
Unfortunately, some customers complain that once they have installed the system update on their Droid Turbo, problems with the gadget’s battery occurred. The upgrade apparently had damaged the smartphone’s battery performance, turbo-charging speed, as well as its mobile data speed.
Venture Capital Post reports that the phone manufacturer intended the latest update to provide usual bug fixes and roll out new features such as notification and interruption priorities, Moto and Ambient Display, as well as Device Protection and Smart Lock to better protect the device especially if it is stolen. To the users’ dismay, the update had made the battery working non-stop despite doing nothing with the device not to mention having a sluggish charging speed.
The handset model’s battery life has been one of its strongest features ever since the phone was released in the market last year. The Droid Turbo boasts of a 3,900 mAH battery that can stand up to a whopping 28 days of standby time and up to 48 hours of continuous usage time. The phone comes with a 2.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 600 MHz Adreno 420 GPU and features a 3GB RAM, an optional internal memory of 32GB or 64GB. The device does not, however, provide expandable memory through a removable storage slot.
In addition, the smartphone sports a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with a 565 pixels per inch pixel density at 1440 x 2560 resolution. The Droid Turbo can capture quality images as well since it’s backed up by a 21-megapixel rear-facing camera and a two-megapixel front snapper. The phone’s features really do give the competition a run for the money, but it seems buyer of the Motorola Droid Turbo want their money back because of the latest flak that the device is drawing as a result of its latest OS update.
In a forum on XDA Developers, users share that their phone’s battery life has been awful since the update, stating that it is draining easily prompting them to charge it almost every day. It turns out the charging process was also a problem. In the same forum, other users have been criticizing the phone’s turbo-charging function which was downgraded to stop at 50% post-update compared to the 70% turn-off point before the latest update. Some customers also protested that ever since they’ve upgraded their phone’s operating system, their internet speed while on mobile data has rapidly decreased causing regression in their web surfing activities.
Motorola is yet to make an official statement or announcement about the issue hounding the Droid Turbo, but they better act fast because consumers are not getting happy about the Android 5.1 Lollipop update being more of a downgrade than what it is supposed to be. Despite the lack of a solution from Motorola itself, Gotta Be Mobile was kind enough to suggest that users can opt to use the factory data reset as an answer to their problems. The website also gave ample precautions to users who are still thinking of giving the latest update for their mobile device a shot.

Talking about what’s coming up for Droid , what about what went down for all those who downloaded the new anticipated Lollipop program making their phone a not so sweet item anymore. Now they need to wait til their contract is
up to get a new phone with the features they wanted this time around. Verizon should make good for their failed promises to their customers now that got burned by false promises.
I can’t imagine what might be going on with other DROID Turbos, as mine works incredibility well after the 5.1 update. I have no problem with LTE speeds, no battery problems, in fact, battery performance has upticked a bit. It doesn’t get as hot as it did with KitKat either…. I sympathize with others and any problems they may be having, as this is the nicest Android phone I’ve used and I’ve used several over the years. I would say to Moto, bring on 5.1.1 already!
if you call motorola, forget it. my phone it still under warranty. i got no where after installing lollipop.
I downloaded the 5.1 on my turbo and it is working fine. I use it around 16-20 hours a day non stop. Turbo charging still works perfect, internet is fine. The phone has been better since the update.
I was just online with Motorola global tech support and they are exchanging my “lollipop” ruined phone with a “like new” droid turbo for no charge. I am so happy. The next OS is total garbage. Kills my battery and you can’t silence the phone with just the side volume button. Over-engineered. I’ll take a refurb with KitKat all day after lollipop killed the best phone I ever had. Just need to make sure to disable auto OS updates…
I got brand new droid turbo in Sept. On Nov. 12 I went in to Verizon CB my calls were not showing up, they reset it, with in 2 weeks it was happening again so on Dec. 8 I took it in again, they changed out SIM card within 2 days if I did not reset my phone every 12 hours I was going through 18 new v.m. I didn’t know existed, I missed out on 3 job opportunities during this and calls from my kids schools. I went in yesterday my 2 options were go at least a week without a phone while they sent me a refurbished that if still be paying same amount on after being exasperated with this my other option was to pay off the $400 on the droid and get $80 trade toward another phone that hopefully works.. Not a droid..I’m sad because I am feeling very screwed over and I really did like my droid… I can’t believe these people can sleep at night ?
