When Google formally launched the Android 5.0 Lollipop on November 12, 2014, apart from its own Nexus devices, the latest Android mobile operating system also rolled out to Motorola’s flagship devices.
That is why when the highly touted Lollipop started having problems Nexus and Motorola devices were also the firsts to suffer from bugs and glitches among other issues that hounded the mobile operating system.
But it seems that Motorola is so confident that Google has made the biggest update to the supposedly grandest Android version yet that it is again taking the lead in adopting the Android 5.1 Lollipop update on its mobile devices.
Motorola devices already running on Android 5.1
While Google has announced that Android 5.1 Lollipop will officially roll out by end-February, there is now a leaked image of a Moto G 2014 running on the update of Google’s latest mobile operating system.
The leaked photo indicates that the Moto G 2014 with Android 5.1 Lollipop has a build number of LXY22E and it is dated February 2, reports the Australian edition of the International Business Times.
It is also very likely that Motorola will also be rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop to its other key devices like the Moto E and the Moto X very soon.
The third generation Moto X handset is expected to be unveiled during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 to be held in Barcelona, Spain in the first week of March.
Motorola traditionally releases its smartphone with the latest Android update so it is very likely that the Moto X (Generation 3) will also be launched already pre-loaded with the Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The Japanese phone maker has also given out invitations for Moto E users in India for the possible over-the-air update of Android 5.1 Lollipop.
A major improvement
Because of the problems encountered by Android 5.0 Lollipop upon its roll out, Google had to come up with at least two patches to appease the frustration of some users on the latest mobile operating system for Android handsets.
Google initially released the Android 5.0.1 patch in the last week of November, which was sufficient enough to address certain bugs but not all of them. So in December, the Android 5.0.2 patch was released.
Again, despite addressing some bugs, glitches and other issues, the patch was still not good enough to fix all the key problems. Thus, Google went back to the drawing board and started working on the Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The major update to Android’s latest mobile operating system will restore the silent mode that the Android 5.0 Lollipop has done away with. It shall also come with other features including optimized memory and battery management, improved Wi-Fi connectivity, among many others.
