It’s Official! ‘The Incredibles 2’ is All Set for Production with Brad Bird as Director

Disney Pictures has officially okayed the production of “The Incredibles 2” to start alongside “Cars 3.” Robert Iger, Disney CEO, announced the decision to do the film last year during the shareholders and D23 members meeting. He also said that Pixar, the Disney-owned creative studio, is already developing “Cars 3.”

Mr. Incredible and his superhero family will be back on the large screen under the direction of Brad Bird, writer and director of the first installment “The Incredibles.” In an interview with Collider, Bird said he already have a bunch of pages made for the sequel. He initially had a lot of ideas as to what the next plot would be.

He said he had previous ideas for “The Incredibles” that he was not able to use in the first movie that he feels he can incorporate it to the next one. He also added that there will still be fresh ideas to add to make it a more interesting film. At the time of the interview, he was still directing “Tomorrowland” starring George Clooney. He said he would like to focus on one film at a time but he feels like his next project would be “The Incredibles 2.”

This is a very exciting news for the fans of the family animated movie. The first movie was about the struggle of Bob and Helen Parr as they try to create a normal family. Bob and Helen were formerly known as Mr. Incredible and Elasticgirl. What they do not know is that their children also had inherent superpowers that they are struggling with.

The eldest daughter, Violet, has the ability to make herself partly or completely invisible. She also has the ability to create a force field around herself or in some distance. She was voiced by Sarah Vowell in the first movie.

Then, there is the rebel, Dash. Dash has a superhero power to run as fast as lightning. Because of this, he has the ability to run on water and bend physics by running up on buildings. He was voiced by Spencer Fox.

Finally, the most adorable little incredible, Jack-Jack. The family thought he was just a normal little baby. However, his superpowers were discovered when he was left alone to a nanny while the entire family went out to battle the film’s villain, Syndrome.

When Syndrome abducted the baby, he was surprised after Jack-Jack turned himself into fire, lead and into a monster. More of Jack-Jack’s powers were revealed in the Pixar short film, “Jack-Jack Attack,” which is available to watch on YouTube.

With the exciting ending of the first movie, Bird faces a big challenge of creating a better film than the first one. Bird said that after “The Incredibles” was released, a lot of superhero movies emerged and it now feels like a dried up industry. The challenge is how to make a unique storyline that is not just about superpowers or the common cliché of saving the world.
