‘House of Cards’ Season 5 Setting Up the Stage for the First Female US President!

Just like the American political action thriller “Homeland” on Showtime, “House of Cards” on Netflix is now setting the stage for the first female president of the United States.

Interestingly, that is not the only thing that seems to be common in the upcoming seasons of both TV series.

Apparently, “House of Cards” has lost a major character in Elizabeth Marvel for Season 5 as she has been taken by “Homeland” to take on the role of Elizabeth Keane, the first US female president. From Seasons 1 to 4, Marvel played the role of Heather Dunbar in “House of Cards” and many fans are saying that she is a big loss to the show.

There are even wild speculations saying that her departure from “House of Cards” might actually cause the cancellation of the show for Season 5, notes Game & Guide.

But many think those rumors are hollowed considering that the big stars of “House of Cards” are still Kevin Spacey, who plays incumbent US President Frank Underwood, and Robin Wright, who plays the wife and the Vice President Claire Underwood.

Unlike in “Homeland” however where the first female US president will be elected to power, the first lady ruler of America in “House of Cards” shall reportedly rise to power by virtue of ascension.

There have been rumors since the end of Season 4 of “House of Cards” that Frank Underwood would meet his demise in Season 5 which would pave the way for Claire Underwood to become the US president, being the next-in-line to the US commander-in-chief.

Subsequently, the rumors started theorizing which way Frank Underwood would go – whether he will die through natural cause or he would be murdered.

Filming already underway

Fans of “House of Cards” should be happy to know that the rumors about the show’s possible cancellation for Season 5 have no truth to it as it has already been confirmed that filming for the TV series has already started in the Baltimore area.

Show producer Dana Brunetti also issued a statement recently to say that he has no plans of ending the series at the moment, which seems to confirm that there will be a Season 5 for “House of Cards.”

And the only thing that is left up in the air is whether the show would have a Season 6 and beyond. Because most of the previous rumors have been fairly consistent in saying that Season 5 would be the last for the show, just like its counterpart series in the UK, details Movie News Guide.

Another thing that seems certain is the date of the airing of “House of Cards” on Netflix which could either be in February or March next year, when the United States would have a new president already. Whether it is going to be Hillary Clinton from the Democratic Party or Donald Trump from the Republican Party remains to be seen.

Right-hand man to pull the trigger?

The fifth and reported final season of “House of Cards” on Netflix shall see the demise of US President Frank Underwood which would give the presidency to his wife, Vice President Claire Underwood.

Previous reports have been saying that Frank will be murdered by his right-hand man Doug Stamper, played by Michael Kelly, on the insistence of Claire Underwood and using his relationship with Leann Harvey, played by Neve Campbell, as her ultimate leverage.

However, it seems very unlikely for Doug Stamper to pull the trigger on Frank Underwood because he has been the most trusted and loyal ally of the US president and turning his back on his boss in just a snap is rather unrealistic.

The rumors about the fifth season of “House of Cards” being its last began as soon as former showrunner Beau Willimon decided to leave the show after the Season 4 finale.

The speculations that Frank may die a natural death seem to be gaining a good foothold on the rumor mill.
