Game publisher Sony Computer Entertainment showed a strong lineup of games during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015 held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California, but it seems that the much-awaited car raising video game “Gran Turismo 7” (GT7) was missing in action. And because of such absence, fans and gamers of the upcoming video game expressed concern about the game developer Polyphony Digital, particularly with its decision to delay the launching of “GT7.”
Sony was able to showcase several video games at the E3 2015 including Media Molecule’s “Dreams” and Guerrilla Games’ upcoming action role-playing game “Horizon Zero Dawn.” Aside from these games, the computer entertainment company also revealed the following upcoming video games: “The Last Guardian,” an action-adventure game being developed by genDESIGN; “Shenmue 3,” an action-adventure game being developed by Ys Net; and the surprising “Final Fantasy VII Remake,” a role-playing game that was developed by Square Enix way back in 1997.
After revealing all upcoming projects and game releases, Sony fans were dismayed that the game publisher seemed to have forgotten the “Gran Turismo 7.” The followers of “Gran Turismo” franchise were excited to see even the faintest sign of the game like a teaser trailer or a preview during the event since the game developer confirmed that the seventh installment is in the works.
Changing release dates
The most difficult part for the fans is anxiously waiting while the date of release for the latest installment of “Gran Turismo” keeps on changing.
In October 2014, Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the racing game, told GamesTM magazine in an interview, that the upcoming “Gran Turismo 7” will match the very era that we live in, in 2015 or 2016. At that time, those statements became a hot topic among fans since some presumed that Yamauchi is pertaining to the game’s year of release. Speculations circulated in different “GT7” forums that the upcoming “Gran Turismo” game might be released in late 2016.
The rumors about the 2016 release date for “GT7” heightened further when Yamauchi said in another interview that people will not wait so much. The “Gran Turismo 7” creator added that they will definitely hasten the release of the video game since what is at stake is the highly popular racing game.
However, with no news, trailer or even leaks about “Gran Turismo 7” in tech events and conferences, the racing game followers doubt whether Polyphony will truly release the game by 2016. They are now speculating that the year of the game’s launch might be pushed back to 2017.
Why the delay?
Due to the slow development of “Gran Turismo 7,” fans and gamers are guessing the real reason behind Polyphony’s delay.
Some “Gran Turismo” fans believe that the game developer is just making sure that the latest installment will not disappoint the users. Polyphony is well-known for being a perfectionist and because of this, the developer is adopting a series of slow development cycles that will further enhance the quality of “Gran Turismo 7.”
Another factor that might be causing the delay was the internal development issues. At times, bugs are causing major damages to racing games like what happened to “Project CARS.” Thus, computer entertainment companies like Sony are planning beforehand on how to respond to it in the event that such issues arise.
But, what is clear among “Gran Turismo” fans is the willingness of Polyphony to exceed the capabilities of the previous installment. During the SpazioGames interview, Yamauchi revealed that they are taking impact simulation very seriously. He added that the developers are solving the previous problems they encountered with physics and collisions.
Yamauchi also confirmed that “GT7” will feature additional details on premium cars that will have great parts, headlights, and even interiors.
