Emma Watson Named #1 Celebrity Feminist of 2014, Beyonce, Laverne Cox also on the List!

Cosmopolitan have been compiling a list of their top celebrity feminists for 2014, and they have just released the final version – and they have decided to give Emma Watson the top spot for this year. This shouldn’t be very surprising to many people, especially those who’ve been following Watson’s activism closely throughout the last year. Watson has been quite active in promoting feminism with speeches and presentations, and has been seen as a great contributor to the movement.

In particular, this year she made a notable speech for the “He for She” program (the foundation of which she was part of), which has been cited in various publications ever since. The speech was seen as very motivating by many people, and it was aimed primarily at men, urging them to be more active in the fight for equality, and telling them that the responsibility falls largely on them as well.

Some of Emma Watson’s views on feminism is that men are sometimes inclined to not help out, because the way feminism is presented in many cases is analogous to simple hatred towards men. And, according to Watson, this is definitely what the movement stands for, as anyone involved with it should be clearly aware.

Watson has actually been involved in the feminism movement for quite a while, and her presence on the list was unsurprising to many of her fans – with some claiming that they were also sure she would go on to win as well. Others were more skeptical, stating that the list has some very strong and noteworthy names for this year, and it would be a tough competition.

Other than Emma Watson, Cosmopolitan’s list included notable names such as Laverne Cox, Beyonce, Cher, Tina Fey and Ann Curry. According to Cosmopolitan, the list has a very special meaning, and every person on it has earned her place in a way. Most of the names were not really surprising to anyone, just like Emma Watson’s presence, and some were even trying to predict the full list before it was released – although it would appear that none of those predictions really came close in the end.

Emma Watson has been on a roll with her activism in this field lately, and it can be expected that 2015 will see even more of her accomplishments. There’s no doubt that she will receive more similar recognition for her work, and it’s also likely that her contributions have helped a great deal to make feminism more appealing to a broader audience, instead of limiting it to something that only women generally show an interest in.
