The seventh season of the American police procedural drama TV series “Blue Bloods” on CBS will return to the small screen on September 23 and the premiere episode shall focus on Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg, facing scrutiny over the death of serial killer Thomas Wilder, played by Louis Cancelmi, back in Season 6.
Based on the trailer and images for the premiere episode of Season 7 of “Blue Bloods,” Danny is shown being grilled by an attorney during a trial for the Wilder case.
Danny has previously thought that the case was already closed after he took justice into his own hands and murdered the serial killer.
However, new evidence surfaced which might have changed the previous court ruling so the case was reopened.
It can be recalled that Danny’s decision to kill Wilder was because he wanted revenge. During their encounter, Wilder bluffed Danny that he had a gun, forcing Danny to shoot him, details the Christian Times.
Danny shall meet a lawyer named Michael Lewis from the Attorney General’s office. He will prove to the court that Danny’s alibi of self-defense is not true and that he will be presenting evidence to prove that Danny killed Wilder because the serial killer already became a huge threat to the safety of his family.
No regrets being a cop
In the trailer, Danny was also shown asking his father Frank, played by Tom Selleck, if he ever regretted being a cop.
Frank told him that he may have plenty of regrets in his life but being a police officer is not one of them. It was an indirect message of support to his son, who seems to be in a quagmire for killing an unarmed serial killer in cold blood, cites Chatt Sports Net.
One of the scenes also showed Erin, played by Bridget Moynahan, giving his brother Danny advice on how he should respond when he gets questioned by the District Attorney.
Erin also told him to slow down on the way he talks because his attitude might make him go to trial for murder.
What seems to be at play in the trial during the first episode of Season 7 entitled “The Greater Good” are the name and legacy of the Reagan family who is the real Blue Bloods, which might be tarnished by the case hurled against Danny.
Staying as Police Commissioner
When the case against Danny was reopened, Frank immediately tendered his resignation to the Mayor as Police Commissioner, but the local chief executive turned it down.
Franks is also caught on a choice whether to help Grace Edwards, played by Lori Loughlin, the widow of a slain police officer, with her request, which is to talk to her son out of joining the police force.
Since the episode will be focusing on a present-day issue, there are speculations that the theme will be explored further in future episodes.
Speaking of Frank, there are reports saying that his love life will be placed in the limelight in the upcoming season of “Blue Bloods.”
It will be Frank’s second shot at love after his wife’s death. However, the producers have yet to confirm who the new woman in Frank’s life is going to be.
“Blue Bloods” follows the story of the Irish-American Reagan family of police officers with the New York Police Department (NYPD).
The patriarch is Francis ‘Frank’ Reagan who is the Police Commissioner. He served as a US Marine Corps officer in Vietnam before he joined the NYPD. He is also a 9/11 First Responder and also a widower. His son Joe was murdered in the line of duty and has three other children – Danny, Erin and Police Officer Jamie Reagan, played by Will Estes.
Danny is a top NYPD detective and holds the rank of Detective First Grade. He is a hard-nosed officer who does not always go by the book. Like his father, he is also a US Marine Corps veteran, having served in the Iraq War in Fallujah.
