Black Sails is just a little of the way into season three and fans are getting very excited at what the show has had to offer up to this point. Starting back in 2013, Black Sails was ordered for a second season before the first even started on January 18th, 2014. That does not happen that often, but executives were happy with the fan reaction to the new dramatic adventure series previewed at Comic-Con that year.
The third season was ordered by October of 2014, with the fourth season order by the end of July last year. Both of those orders came in before the current seasons even premiered. To many, that says a lot about how the show is being received. Another part of the popularity might be coming from the fact that the entire series is available for free on YouTube and other streaming platforms. The show takes place about twenty years before Treasure Island and during the Golden Age of Piracy.
There are fifteen main characters, starting with Toby Stephens, Hannah New and Luke Arnold. Their characters have specific roles and mingle with a number of recurring characters throughout the first three seasons. What you will find in the third season of Black Sails is that Blackbeard rejoins, already wanted, Charles Vane, played by Zach McGowan. Added to the show as some sort of a butt-kicking pirate that is wanted on the high seas, Charles Vane brings plenty of drama along with him.
The latest episode of Black Sails is one where you see more of Blackbeard in action, compared to other times when he is just seemingly in the background watching. Blackbeard is laid back and watching all of the scenes unfold, while planning his attacks to happen at the right time. The show is at the point where the viewers are left wondering who the top dog is and the fight scenes make that even hard to determine. James McGraw, or Flint, fights ruthlessly, while Rackham is sloppy and Vane is feral. When it comes to Blackbeard actually getting into the action, he seems light on his feet, yet commanding at the same time.
Fans loves the show and even though it took a second season to really cement that into place, there are many loyal fans that are wondering why the show is not winning awards all over the place. Vane was brought into the scene and is often made into some superhuman which has an adverse impact on what fans think should be happening. The worse thing that could be happening for Vane is the fact that the entire island is out looking for the cash that was put on his head.
