Apple iPhone 8 Expected to Have Edge-To-Edge Display, Dual-Camera System Only in Premium Variants

With Apple aficionados getting their hands on the Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, the rumors about iPhone 8 have started rolling out. Apple will complete its 10th anniversary for the iPhone next year and hence the upcoming Apple flagship will be unique.

Apple is expected to pack in some significant changes in the Apple iPhone 8 to mark the occasion of its 10th anniversary. Rumors suggest that Apple iPhone 8 will have a full glass body and an edge to edge display that has been tried by Xiaomi.

The possibility of an edge to edge display eliminates the home button. Apple users need not worry about the fingerprint scanner since Apple will embed the touch ID in the OLED display screen along with the front camera.

New York Times reported Apple’s plans to use an edge to edge display for the upcoming iPhone. It wouldn’t be the first time that Apple has been rumored to consider the wrap-around design. The company has previously thought of placing the home button and the Touch ID scanner under the display glass.

The technology to allow the fingerprint scanner to work from beneath the screen is something that Apple has been working on for a while. Theories claim that Apple could use ultrasonic waves to scan the fingerprints through the glass.

iTech reported Apple working on the 3D Touch technology. The success of the technology could easily be the reason behind their decision to eliminate the home button and to place the fingerprint scanner beneath the touch screen. Interested users will have to wait for official confirmation of these iPhone 8 designs.

Industry experts claim that Apple will make use of the Zirconia ceramic for its AMOLED display. The material is durable and possesses heat dissipating qualities. Apple previously used the Zirconia ceramic for the Series 2 Apple Watch.

The A10 processor powers Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Apple wants to improve that further with Apple iPhone 8. The Cupertino company will power their upcoming iPhone with the A11 processor. The device is also expected to have wireless charging facilities.

VentureBeat reported that Energous latest prospectus includes a section directly referring Apple. The section of ‘Industry Certifications’ includes the company’s name. Apart from listings like FCC approval and Underwriters Laboratory, Apple is listed under compliance testing.

Reports suggest that the WattUp reference design would be under compliance testing for Apple, only if the company was evaluating the design for its portable devices. The charging technology under question doesn’t depend on a wireless charging mat or dock. The signal travels up to 15 feet, and it can be used to charge at least 12 devices at the same time.

The Apple iPhone 8 will have three distinct variants. One will be the OLED version, while the other two would be standard iPhones models. The standard iPhone 8 variants will have a screen size of 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch. The premium OLED model might have a dual curve display. The standard models are going to have the regular flat screen.

The next iPhone might not be called iPhone 8. Many believe that Apple might end up calling it iPhone 7S. However, experts note that since Apple is incorporating numerous updates to the model, they wouldn’t stick to the same number as used for the current models.

KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo informed that the dual-lens camera would be exclusive to the larger models even in iPhone 8. The 4.7-inch model of iPhone 8 won’t feature the dual-camera system introduced by Apple in iPhone 7 Plus.
