Motorola have decided to finally reveal some information about the status of software updates for the Droid Turbo Verizon, and according to the company, they plan on jumping straight to Android 5.1 for this release, instead of going through the 5.0 version. The company has already been working on the update for a while, and it looks like the decision to skip 5.0 is final – that version won’t be released in the end.
This doesn’t have to be a bad thing though, as the 5.1 update will likely include all features from the previous release – it doesn’t make much sense not to – and it will also allow the company’s developers to focus on making the 5.1 update a good experience by giving it a sufficient dose of polish.
Furthermore, the update is being prepared for release in about a month, as it’s targeted for around the middle of June, though we don’t know an exact date. It’s currently in a testing phase, according to reports, and Verizon have been hard at work verifying that the update can handle all of their bands properly, especially the VoLTE capabilities of the network.
According to the preview information, the update will do a lot to improve call quality and LTE support in particular, and knowing how much some carriers have been investing in this technology lately, this makes perfect sense. We would expect even more carriers to start focusing more actively on the LTE capabilities of devices they’re supporting, though it will likely take some time before the feature becomes truly widespread.
Some of the company’s fans have been displeased with the slow pace of releasing updates for their phones, but this can be explained by the lower number of people working on those updates compared to other major companies on the market, like Apple and Samsung. They have significantly more engineers programming each update, allowing them to get the patches out faster.
Testing is another issue – those companies have more testers working for them, and this can allow them to more quickly verify the status of each update before pushing it out to the public. This is just as important as having enough developers, because discovering bugs too late in the development process can often cost a lot of time, perhaps even more than what it normally takes to fix those bugs in the first place.
So with that in mind, Motorola have been handling the situation to the best of their abilities, and their development progress isn’t all that bad when we look at the number of people involved in the project.
I have been waiting for your phone finally it is coming in June. What is the price of the the phone. 2 battery 3 gb 4 sim
This is taking too long, we need to get this faster. I got the phone and I am still waiting for this update. FYI… The galaxy s3 now has lollipop update but we (turbo) don’t have it.
