While there hasn’t been any useful information about “Dishonored 2” on the official front recently, rumors have been plentiful – including a fresh one which claims to be a leak straight from the offices of Arkane Studio, sharing some information about the in-development game. Whether or not these rumors are true is impossible to confirm right now, so fans should take them with a grain of salt – but they do reveal some interesting information if true.
“Dishonored 2” is allegedly being worked on at the Lyon studio of Arkane, and the development is being headed by Raphael Colontinio, who was the co-creative director on the first title. The game is reportedly in an early stage of development, to the point where the protagonist hasn’t even been decided on yet – there are apparently talks about replacing him with another character, with one of the options being a female one.
Emily Kaldwin is the girl in question, but those who remember the character from the original Dishonored might also remember the fact that she was just a child in the first game. If she is indeed the protagonist of “Dishonored 2”, this could imply a time gap of at least one or two decades between the games.
In terms of locations, the new game is set to take the player outside of Dunwall and beyond, although it’s not yet clear where exactly the new levels are going to be set, and if the game will be exclusively located outside of Dunwall. That would be rather unlikely, but then again, it’s possible that the studio might want to make a more drastic experiment with the new game. There are plenty of locations outside of Dunwall that have already been established in the game’s lore which would make perfect settings for any future levels, so the developers certainly have plenty of options.
The game was originally rumored to be set for announcement at E3, according to a promotional image that was allegedly leaked before the event. However, the revelation didn’t happen, and most believed that the image was either fake, or really did come from Bethesda, but the publisher changed their plans in the last minute. Both are entirely plausible, especially now in light of the new rumors.
“Dishonored 2” can also introduce some major technological advancements to its gameplay and graphics, which would certainly benefit a game of its style. The first title was praised for its artistic approach and the overall consistent appearance of the levels, as well as its solid, responsive controls on the other hand. Combining that with some modern hardware could really help this game’s gameplay shine and show fans what the franchise is capable of.
