Adam Lambert gave away a theatrical performance and his fans loved every bit of it when he headlined a gig on December 7 at the Connor Palace in Cleveland, Ohio.
The “American Idol” alum’s performance oozed with theatricality and light-hearted glamour. Adam was backed up by a six-piece band and his songs focused heavily on his latest album “The Original High.”
He performed a soulful Broadway rendition of “The Light” as well as “Evil in the Night,” “Underground,” and “Another Lonely Night.”
He opened the show by saying that he is really a theater kid who transformed into pop before singing a ballad rendition of his latest hit single “Ghost Town.”
Capping his set, he belted out to the hard rock number “Lucy” accompanied by some head banging.
Lambert’s gig lasted for an hour or so and he also jammed to songs from his previous albums such as “Shady,” a stripped-back version of his hit “Whataya Want From Me” and “Trespassing.”
As per Clevescene, the audience had nothing but praises for the singer. In fact, when his set ended, the crowd chanted his name, signaling they want more. Not to disappoint, the 33-year-old singer obliged and performed a reggae version of “If I Had You.”
Last week, Adam also wowed the audience at the CMT Artists of the Year event while performing with Leona Lewis.
The “X Factor” champion and the “American Idol” favorite sang a cover of Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush.”
The song sparked a slight controversy earlier this year as some feared that the track would be too provocative for country radio.
Digital Spy notes that since the original track was sung by the band’s Karen Fairchild, many assumed that it was promoting lesbian love, despite not being in the narrative of the song.
The song actually centers on a girl obsessing over another girl who has the man she wants but has never had.
Interestingly, Adam’s take on the song was an openly gay man which the crowd loved. Lambert and Lewis both released their new albums this year.
Lambert’s “The Original High” came out last April while Leona’s “I Am” was released in September.
Meanwhile, the “For Your Entertainment” singer is facing some controversy regarding his upcoming Asian gig.
Apparently, Adam will be the headline act at MediaCorp’s 2016 New Year Countdown show in Singapore and some Singaporeans are not pleased with it.
A petition even emerged calling for the singer to be removed from the show because some Singaporeans believe that an openly gay singer is an inappropriate choice for the show. The petition has already garnered more than 19,000 signatures.
An opposing petition in support of Adam performing appeared online in response to the first petition and it managed to surpass the first one with the latter having garnered more than 24,000 signatures.
Lambert has already performed in the Asian country three times over the past five years and this is not actually the first time that objections have been raised against him.
In 2013, ahead of his concert at the Star Performing Arts Centre, the National Council of Churches of Singapore received a complaint about a church-owned venue hosting the openly gay singer.
The show was then given an ‘Advisory 16 and above’ rating by the Media Development Authority.
Speaking to Straits Times ahead of the latest petitions, Lambert admitted that he was not aware that there were some complaints regarding his 2013 performance.
He says that his shows are about love, acceptance, freedom, and honesty. The “Never Close Our Eyes” singer adds that he doesn’t see how that’s offensive to anybody no matter what religion they follow.
Well, it looks like Adam will be performing in Singapore to welcome 2016. Lambert says that for his show, he will definitely throw in lots of new songs as well as lots of old songs and a couple of new surprises too.
Who could hate Adam?
No one that has all of their senses. He’s the nicest, most exciting, talented man I’ve ever seen! So real & unpretentious, a sweetheart!
24,000 Singapore fans answered that ridiculous negative petition with their own, They were thrilled that Adam was coming back to Singapore & let it be known. Adam has always been very respectful of every countries customs & has never done anything to deserve this religious sect’s reason to try & deny his fans his magnificent talent. They obviously have a problem because he’s gay, which has nothing to do with his talent. His world tour with Queen was sold out & had outstanding reviews, as does his own , personal performances. He’s a rare talent & always gives an impeccable, exciting performance. So happy for the Singapore fans that will have this incredible gift of seeing Adam live!
