Adam Lambert Says He is No Stranger to the Feeling of Not Liking Himself and Explains Why!

It is normal for some people to wallow in pity after they have been through a lot of ordeals in life. After all, there is not a single person in this world who has not faced challenges in his or her lifetime.

Pop superstar Adam Lambert is one frank individual so much so that he can actually talk and share about his feelings and emotions to almost everybody including his millions of fans around the world.

On July 6, the “American Idol” alum gave everyone a glimpse of some of the challenges he had to go through as a person with the launching of his raw and self-produced music video for his single “Welcome to the Show,” reports Out.

The video also features Swedish singer-songwriter Laleh and focuses on close shots of the “Ghost Town” singer’s face and chest, with some where he was wearing a shirt.

Lambert talked about his inspiration behind the song in an open letter that accompanied the video. He also explained why he wanted to produce the track himself.

Felt terrified of himself

The “For Your Entertainment” singer said that he also came to a point in his life when he felt terrified of facing his true, whole self that is stripped of any pretense. He added that he is no stranger to the feeling of not liking himself after factoring in the good, the bad, the cracks, and the scars in his life.

He also said that he once struggled with his body image and also had to deal with the problems of being trapped by labels or identities.

Lambert cited that living in a world filled with so much hatred makes cultivating self-love a very difficult task. He admitted that he always struggled with it as much as many people have.

He encouraged his fans and other people to take their flaws in stride, nurture their talents, take pride in their respective queerness, and share all the love they have.

The track “Welcome to the Show” is Adam’s first self-produced music video and the out singer revels during his performance in the bare authenticity of the song and the shoot.

Making history

The 34-year-old “American Idol” 2009 runner-up made history in 2012 by becoming the first openly gay artist to top the Billboard charts with the release of his sophomore album entitled “Trespassing.”

His message that came with the music video of “Welcome to the Show” also spoke about empowerment, acceptance, and celebration, notes Towleroad.

The track is an anthem about facing exactly who he is and owning it, he explained. He added that it is intended as a mantra to inspire strength and pride.

Lambert recalled that after he recorded the song a few months ago, he felt very compelled to create a music video to further communicate its meaning.

Adam Lambert actually co-directed the video with his friend and long-time collaborator Lee Cherry. He said that both he and Laleh agreed on the vulnerability they wanted to be captured on screen.

He also said in his video message that true individuality has become daunting in today’s age of social media popularity contests. Adam Lambert said that his path is a kind of paradox in that he gets to share his craft with the world, while at the same time allowing himself to be thrown into the wolves.

He had to face the challenge of daring to be different but still wanting to be accepted, citing that there is still vast beauty to be found in life’s contradictions.

Incidentally, Adam Lambert has experienced a major break up before and he disclosed that the song “Eclipse” by Robyn helped him get through and over a tough break up.

The “Ghost Town” singer sad that he cried a river when he heard the song after he and his other half split.

  1. Good article but why did we need the last two paragraphs???? If you’re doing a negative at least give a positive with it. Millions of Queen fans love and accept Adam for giving new life to such memorable songs.

  2. Welcome To The Show Official Video is so beautifully done! This is the Adam Lambert the Glamberts have known for 7 years, and the one everyone else in the world needs to get to know! He is so honest and humble. Adam has touched my heart in so many different ways!

  3. Adam was on Idol seven years ago. Time to drop the “runner up” and “openly gay” descriptives and describe him relative to his third cd “The Original High”, international hit “Ghost Town”, Queen frontman for their world tour and new judge on Australian X Factor. And yes, by the way I attended two Queen + Adam concerts in Canada in the summer of 2014 during their North American tour and they were simply sublime.

  4. This video gets Adam’s message across in a simple, straightforward way, beautifully filmed & sung with his ever pleasing voice. He’s known for his realness & honesty & it comes thru’ in this video as it does in his many interviews & performances.
