Adam Lambert Has the Same Charisma as Freddie Mercury in Connecting to People, Says Brian May!

Adam Lambert has been fronting for the iconic rock band Queen for quite some time now and just before the group’s ‘Rock in Rio’ performance in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, recently, he and bandmates Brian May and Roger Taylor took part in the event’s press conference.

As he has had the opportunity to share the stage with Adam Lambert and former Queen vocalist, the late Freddie Mercury, Brian May was asked to compare the two lead singers for the rock group.

Brian said that there are obvious differences between Adam and Freddie, but he believes that the greatest thing that Freddie has, which Adam happens to share, is his ability to connect with people and their audiences, cites Blabbermouth.net.

May said that such attribute is not something that can be learned because it is something that a person or a performer either has it or not at all.

He added that like Freddie, Adam is dedicated to his art and that really makes him a great performer. He said that with Adam’s wonderful talent, he certainly can go places.

Brian went on to explain that if Adam walks onto a stage, he is not trying to be Freddie. But when Freddie and Adam walk on, something happens and some kind of catalytic action takes place between people and he considers it a very rare and special thing. He also said that both Freddie and Adam have incredible voices too.

Filling Freddie’s shoes

After joining and wrapping up Queen’s most recent European tour in January, Brian May actually described Adam Lambert as the only singer today which the band had found to be capable of filling Freddie Mercury’s big shoes.

He said that Lambert is the first person that they have encountered who can do all the Queen song catalog without blinking, even calling Adam as a gift from God.

Adam, for his part, simply downplayed the comparison with Freddie Mercury, saying that there is never going to be another Freddie Mercury and that he was not replacing him in the group. He said that he is not imitating Freddie either, he is just trying to share with the audience how much Freddie has inspired him.

Colliding worlds

While Adam Lambert has managed to keep his solo career as a pop singer separate from his stadium-rock side gig as frontman for Queen, it appears that his pop and rock worlds collided on September 16 during the ‘Rock in Rio’ performance of the iconic rock group.

Lambert was able to sing his own original song, “Ghost Town” on stage with Queen in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The result was an unexpected epic because “Ghost Town” was rendered like it has never been heard before, notes Yahoo! Music.

It also marked the first time that Adam Lambert, who met Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, when he sang with them during Season 8 of “American Idol” back in 2009, had performed his own material at a Queen gig.

Adam Lambert will also be joining many of the reality singing competition show “American Idol” when its 16th and final season is aired on Fox next year.

But he will not be any judge or coach or something as Lambert will just deliver prime performance during the course of the show the way Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber did in the past seasons of “American Idol”

Their stint as guest performers in the “American Idol” actually gave their careers more momentum on course to even greater heights. For the final season of the singing competition reality show, “American Idol” shall no longer bring A-list music stars but its very own roster of talented idols which shall look and become organic.

  1. Adam Lambert will be the biggest international star from Idol. His recent performance in Brazil with Queen in front of 85,000 people was epic. American Idol gave Adam a platform, but then they allowed the cheaters in Arkansas to steal Adam’s title and tried to kill Adam’s career to validate the integrity of the show, when they were hit with backlash. The show should come clean about the 30,000,000 Conway, Arkansas votes that were assisted by the AT&T executive from Kris Allen’s university. Allowing those cheating votes to count killed the show. American Idol RIP and long live Adam Lambert.

      1. I agree about your assessment in that I was gobsmacked by Adam Lambert’s vocals + performance level. Therefore, I am glad American Idol was airing. Adam’s performance level was so high during his season that every season after his seemed lackluster & dull. I read so many times Adam Lambert broke American Idol because of what I just described. The American Idol tour that year verified our feelings, when Adam took that stage the crowd went wild. He appeared on American Idol to utilize the chance to reach people & thank you American Idol it worked`

  2. The performance of a rock-enhanced version of Ghost Town at Sao Paulo and Rio was the ultimate compliment from Brian and Roger. It was thrilling to hear the audience chanting Adam’s name. The Original High is pop but Adam simply shines when he sings rock and LIVE like no other. (in my humble opinion)

  3. Adam is the one performer who has made an appearance every season since his own in some capacity, judge, mentor, singer, etc. He has always appreciated the platform that Idol has given him & he was the first to ever acknowledge the vocal coaches & band when he sang. He is a class act & the most exciting artist to ever grace the Idol stage. He raised the bar & could sing any genre of music equally to perfection. His world tour with Queen is a testament to his talent. He’ll always be my # 1 American Idol.
