Some of the more minor rumors about the device talk about various hardware improvements and changes from the predecessor. USB Type-C is mentioned often, and many are convinced that Apple will give another go to the idea.

If that’s true, the rumor about a touchscreen could definitely make sense for that device. The move could also be a smart one for Apple, as this type of device has gained a lot of popularity on the market lately, and now could be a great time to bring out something like this.
Or, we could also see something completely new that other companies haven’t tried yet. It’s Apple, so we wouldn’t be surprised by a move like that. One could argue that it’s dangerous to potentially alienate the core fans of the line with sudden major changes but let’s remember that Apple in particular are very experienced when it comes to delivering the kinds of improvements that their fans want to see exactly, and they are not afraid to go against the grain when the situation calls for it.
