If you waited patiently to hear news about SyFy’s adaptation of the classic comic – we have good news, season 2 is coming!
This quickly became one of the fans’ favorite supernatural shows, and with filming in Alberta wrapping up for the second season, the beginning of the long-awaited new season is almost upon us.
While we wait for it to actually start off, we can at least feast on info we gathered about new cast members and other news.
The new trailer for season 2 of Wynonna Earp
On April 1, at WonderCon, the new trailer was officially dropped. This is the perfect teaser for the upcoming season, and it features new footage of our favorite relationship “Wayhaught” with a kiss that will help us storm through the long wait for the shows’ return.
The trailer shows shootouts, dancing, fisticuffs and giant monsters who enter portals in attempts to destroy our planet.
Also, we got a hint at who will be this season’s big bad – a group of cloaked cultists named “Legion”.
We will see sisters dealing with the death of a family member, but also with a rampant infestation of demons and other paranormal creatures and situations in their little town of Purgatory.

So, when is it coming back?
Season 2 will premiere on June 9, 2017, and it will have one episode less than last season, so we are looking at 12 episodes, which is still much better than the original plan for 10 episodes.
What happens now?
At the end of season 1, we were left with a lot of unanswered questions – is Waverly Earp really Wynonna’s sister? What will happen to her now that she’s infected by the ooze of a dreadful monster? Can Wynonna become a great leader?
Well, the creator, Emily Andras shared some details on what we can expect in the new season “This year, we really get to see the team fighting together and working together,” she said. “There are weird pair-ups, which I’m really excited about. I’m really interested when it’s almost like a weird workplace drama — but the workplace involves fighting demons.”
She also revealed that stakes are now higher than ever, explaining that it is “Because we really examine the nature of family. Can you ever be a good person if you’re someone who is forced to make life-and-death decisions? At the same time, there is a lot of fun. These people really like each other. They make time for that.” So yeah, we’re going to make time to see that!
From what we heard, Tamara Duarte from Longmire will join the Wynonna Earp cast in season 2 as a recurring character. She will be Rosita, the woman recruited by Doc to join this team’s battle against demons. Andras promised that this character will shake things up a lot, bringing turmoil into many of the established relationships of the first season.
Why is this show so special?
It is based on a beloved IDW Comic, and the story of this show follows Wyatt Earp’s great granddaughter through her fights with demons, monsters and other creatures. With her abilities that are one-of-a-kind and her team of strange and dysfunctional allies, this girl is the only one who can bring the paranormal to justice.
Wynonna Earp stars Melanie Scrofano as the titular character, and alongside her are Tim Rozon as Doc Holiday, Shamier Anderson in the role of Xavier Dolls, Dominique Provost-Chalkley as Wynonna’s little sister.
The series is slightly Buffy-esque, and sometimes it gets snarky, dark and poignant, while still being quirky and attention gripping, which must be the reason it got the attention of the audience.
Andras, who was also the showrunner for Lost Girl, stated “I’m absolutely thrilled we have the opportunity to deliver more of our witty, female-led, kickass, diverse supernatural series to our passionate fan base around the world,” in a press release. And, just like Lost Girl, Wynonna Earp series has made a name for itself in the LGBT community because it features a complex lesbian relationship as a part of its line-up.
When you pair all of that, with an interesting and rich mythology, a basic plot of good against evil, and a cast of characters that complement each other, the new season will be happily welcomed.
Even though Wynonna Earp didn’t have a stellar beginning, it rose above similar shows pretty quickly, it became a hit on social media, getting hashtags, trending every week with each new episode, and it even scored big with critics.
Will season 2 rise above the success of season 1?
