Scandal Season 7: Cast News and Updates

Ever since the show creator Shonda Rhimes announced that the upcoming season 7 of Scandal will be the last of the series, we were all dying of curiosity to find out what we can expect from it. So, here’s what we know.

This series premiered as a spring show in 2012 and had only seven episode first season, that thanks to high ratings turned into a 22-episode renewal. At its highest point, during seasons three and four, this show ranked in top 15 of TV shows with approximately 12 million viewers per episode.

This political thriller is based on the character portrayed by Kerry Washington, Olivia Pope (partially based on former George W. Bush administration press aide Judy Smith). When you’re in trouble, the only person to call is Olivia Pope.

This lady is a professional “fixer” who makes problems go away a lot before most people even know they exist. For the rich, the powerful, and even the President of the USA, Olivia is a legend in her field. But, not everything is perfect in that world, when you do damage control for a living, it is inevitable to cause some damage to your own life.

Olivia and her team live, dream and breathe crisis. This is why the show reached such popularity. Each week we got to watch the team race against the clock in order to defuse new intriguing problems before they become scandals, while also dealing with their own issues. And even though these people call themselves “gladiators in suits” Olivia and her team reveal chinks in their armors through the story, keeping us at the edge of our seats.

Scandal showrunner, Shonda Rhimes decided to end this show on her own terms and said that season 7 will be the series’ final. ABC confirmed these news at their upfront presentation.

Rhimes stated that “Deciding how to end a show is easy. Deciding when to finish is quite simple when the end date is years away. But actually going through with it? Actually standing up to say: ‘This is it?’ Not so much. So, next year we are going all out.

Leaving nothing on the table. Creating this world in celebration. We are going to handle the end the way we like to handle the important things in our Scandal family: all together, white hats on, gladiators running full speed over a cliff.”

For the final season, Shonda will introduce a few new faces to this family, just to shake things up in the White House.

Bad Moms and Suicide Squad star Jay Hernandez, and Shaun Toub from Homeland will have recurring roles in Scandal season 7.

Sadly for us, ABC is keeping details about their characters under wraps for now, which to us only means that whoever they will play will make a serious impact on the lives of Olivia Pope and the crew.

We expect for season 7 to have a bunch of subplots that will keep the audience interested in the final season of this show. It is believed that Jeff Perry’s character, Cyrus will serve as Mellie’s vice president, although nothing is set in stone since he hasn’t been sworn in for the position yet.

Liv will take on the role of President Mellie’s (played by Bellamy Young) Chief of Staff and juggle it with B613 duties as the head of black ops.

On the other hand, Fitz (played by Tony Goldwyn) is not in D.C. anymore. The beginning of the new season will see him stationed in Vermont, where he leads a new foundation after Olivia persuaded him not to lead B613.

scandal season 7While all of this is happening, wedding bells will be ringing for Quinn and Charlie (Katie Lowes and George Newbern), and the couple is even expecting.

Even though we have no idea what is in store for Olivia, Kerry Washington’s statement gives hope that it will be phenomenal “We’re proud of what we’ve created,” she said. “I think we’re going to put it all on the table and make sure this last season is one of our best, so I’m excited and sad.”

In other news, a Scandal cast member said that we might not have to say goodbye to this world just yet. Joe Morton, who plays the role of Rowan Pope, Olivia’s father, said that the show reaching the end of the line might end up being a good thing.

He believes that Shonda Rhimes had an idea about a spinoff focused on B613. “Years ago, Shonda talked about a spinoff called, “B613.” She hasn’t talked about it for a very long time, and I don’t know if that’s her interest at this point. So we’ll see,” Morton said.

The series is going to hold its Thursday night timeslot in the fall. The final season will have 18 hour-long episodes. Scandal season 7 premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but we are guessing either September 21 or 28.
