Sam Heughan, who plays the role of Jamie Fraser in the British-American historical drama TV series “Outlander” on Starz, says that the Paris setting of the popular show based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel has changed the show and its characters for its Season 2.
Heughan made the disclosure in a recent interview, as the production staff is about to wrap up filming for the second season of “Outlander,” which is due to premiere on the small screen in April.
He added that Season 2 of “Outlander” is completely different than Season 1. They are in Paris so there is a completely different look to the show, citing further that the costumes look fantastic and ostentatious too.
He also cited that the allies and enemies are very different. There are also fewer people with swords and shields that were very prominent in Season 1. Instead, viewers would see more back-stabbing and politics in the second season.
Season 2 of “Outlander” will be based on Gabaldon’s second novel, titled “Dragonfly in Amber” and will feature Jamie and Claire, played by Caitriona Balfe, continuing their story in Paris.
Based on the storyline of the book, the Fraser couple will attempt to alter the course of history in Paris as they try to stop the Jacobite rising by seeking out Bonnie Prince Charlie, notes Scotland Now.
Terrible weather conditions
Although the show will have a Paris setting, the actual filming is being done in Scotland. Unfortunately, the weather conditions in Scotland recently have wreaked havoc on the “Outlander” set.
Heughan tried to perk up the production staff and actors in his tweet by saying that it was a great but tough week for filming.
The Scottish actor lauded the crew and the extras for working so hard. He also disclosed that they have some new people in the set to play with which makes the filming quite exciting for everyone.
His post on Twitter led fans to speculate on who could be the new people that the actor was referring to. But since there have been plenty of new cast members that were announced since late last year, it could be anybody from Andrew Gower as Bonnie Prince Charlie, Robert Cavanah as Jared Fraser, Stanley Weber as Le Comte St. Germain, Richard Rankin as Roger Wakefield, and Sophie Skelton as Brianna Fraser, or perhaps all of them.
Learning the history of the Fraser family
As part of their efforts to assimilate their respective characters and learn more about the Fraser family history, new cast members Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton recently visited the Wardlaw Mausoleum in Scotland.
They also paid a visit to the final resting place of Simon Fraser of Lovat. It was actually the actress who posted several photos of their visit to the Wardlaw Mausoleum on her Twitter account, notes the International Business Times of Australia.
The Wardlaw Mausoleum likewise posted a few pictures of the “Outlander” cast members’ visit on its official Twitter page and captioning it by saying that Bree and Roger were brushing up on their Fraser history.
The mausoleum’s social media account also expressed delight in having Richard Rankin visiting the historic site indicating that the Scottish actor was obviously doing background research for his role in Season 2 of “Outlander.”
Prior to Sophie Skelton being named to fill the role of Brianna in the TV show, there have been reports last year that Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the popular HBO TV series “Game of Thrones” was being considered for the same role. Apparently, one Sophie’s lost was another Sophie’s gain.
Sophie Skelton is actually a trained singer and dancer. Her role Brianna is described in the books of Diana Gabaldon as a striking, redheaded woman, strong-minded, and intelligent beyond her years with traits inherited from both her mother and father.
