FX has some good news – American Horror Story is renewed for two more seasons! And we have some of the juicy details related to the season 7 – theme, cast, and more…
While fans are still talking about how good American Horror Story: Roanoke turned out to be, FX used the opportunity to announce not the theme of season 7, but also that they will be making seasons 8 and 9!
Even though for a while it seemed that American Horror Story is on verge of extinction, they came back with Roanoke stronger than ever, and apparently, the writers, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk (responsible for our nightmares since 2011) are ready to spill some more anthological terror on their viewers!
So, here’s what we know about the upcoming season.
It was announced in October 2016 by FX CEO John Landgraf who stated “AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style. Each new installment is a cultural event, hotly anticipated for its theme, imagery, cast, and twists. We Thank the creators and their team, the cast and everyone who has continued to make AHS such an extraordinary series.”
Officially, the release date hasn’t been set yet, but we expect it to be, as usual, somewhere in September or October. The first five seasons all began during October, and the sixth first aired in September. There’s no reason for this season to be different.
Usually, the creators of American Horror Story love to keep the theme of the new and upcoming season under wraps, but this time, creator and producer of the show, Ryan Murphy has revealed the theme during Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
He said that the seventh season is going to be based on the 2016 elections. Murphy stated that he still has no title for this season, but he expects it to be interesting for the viewers. We have no doubt that it will, since, for some US citizens, that is one real American horror story they will get to see.
After this show, Murphy confused us completely. In one statement he claimed that Trump and Hillary Clinton wouldn’t be characters in the upcoming season, and then, in a second statement, this time for E Online, said that they will both appear as characters, but as smaller background roles.
Murphy clarified “I think people literally think Sarah Paulson is playing Hillary Clinton, and I wanted to clarify that that is not true. Horror Story is always about allegory, so the election is an allegory. It’s our jumping off point. It is about the election we just went through and what happened on that night and the fallout of that night, which to many people, from all sides of the camps is a horror story. And you know, that show is always so fun when it’s about the zeitgeist and what we’re doing now.”
He also teased that the new season will start on the scariest of all nights – the election night.
Well, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters who have appeared in every season, have already been confirmed. Lily Rabe was there through 6 seasons as well, but we still heard nothing about her return. It’s just our guess, but we think that we will see her in the new season, and also Denis O’Hare, Angela Bassett, and Kathy Bates.
Two new faces will be joining this famous cast – Billy Eichner, and, Scream Queens star Billie Lourd.
Teasers and rumors
We have to wait for months for the show to return, but their official Twitter account gave as a tease for season 7, offering a hint at something that was in rumors for a long time – the cruise ship plotline. The footage points toward a direction at seas, but if you take a better look, it bears resemblance to the opening credits of Dark Shadows. Interestingly, it also features the Roanoke stick figures. Could it be that the separate seasons will continue to converge? After all, there are still unexplained mysteries from previous seasons of American Horror Story.
Murphy also offered some hints at what we can expect in the upcoming season, stating that it will certainly revisit those characters who survived season 4’s carnival of terror.
“Next year, we will be going back to some Freak Show characters, deeper histories, and mythologies,” Ryan Murphy told EW in 2016. “So we’re sort of still exploring season 4 in season 7.”
Filming begins in the Summer, we still have a long wait before the first trailer for season 7 is released, but all things considered, we are pretty hyped, are you?
